Sobre

Reggie R. Thomasson, MD, MS, is the chief of laboratory medicine at Boston Medical Center (BMC), where he oversees the quality, safety, and timely reporting of all laboratory tests. In this role, he collaborates closely with technologists and medical directors across a wide range of laboratories, including microbiology, hematology, and chemistry, ensuring that laboratory results — critical to approximately 70 percent of healthcare decisions — are accurate and reliable.

In addition to his leadership role, Dr. Thomasson serves as an assistant professor of pathology & laboratory medicine at the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine.

Dr. Thomasson's expertise is in transfusion medicine, with a focus on massive transfusion, blood product inventory management, and the management of transfusion-associated complications such as transfusion reactions. As the medical director of the Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine Service at BMC, he ensures that blood products are transfused safely and appropriately, particularly for patients with complex needs, such as those living with sickle cell disease. His laboratory plays a pivotal role in managing specialized blood requirements and performing automated exchange transfusions for these patients.

Dr. Thomasson’s professional and research interests also include advancing the field of genetic therapies for blood-related conditions.

He completed his fellowship in blood bank & transfusion medicine at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he also served as an instructor of pathology and contributed to key committees.
