Meningioma brain tumors are a type of brain tumor that starts in the membrane that covers the brain and spinal cord, which is called the meninges. It's the most common type of brain tumor in adults, but 80-90 percent of them are benign, or non-cancerous.
However, benign meningiomas can still cause health issues and become life threatening, depending on where they are in the brain and spinal cord and how fast they grow. Surgery and radiation are the most common treatments for tumors causing symptoms.
Symptoms of meningioma cancers include:
- Headaches
- Numbness
- Blurry vision
- Weakness in your arms or legs
- Seizures
- Problems speaking
- Memory loss
- Hearing loss
